In Memory

Donald D. Hawkins

Donald "Hawk" Hawkins passed away on July 14, 2020.  No obituary was located, but the following was written by his son Cameron Hawkins:

Yesterday my Dad Donald Hawkins passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes. From my first memory of him, he was always a hardworking man who always wanted what was best for me despite hardly ever seeing eye to eye. Throughout recent years we have mended that relationship to the best it has ever been. He taught me to be respectful and work hard to find success especially with being a black man in America.

I was never big into sports like he was, but we could always find something to talk about whether it be NASCAR or our Kansas City Chiefs. I last spoke to him on Father’s Day coincidentally and luckily the last words I was able to say to him was “I love you, Dad.”

I’m happy that you were able to see our team take home the Lombardi trophy one more time, but there was so much for you to still see.

I wish you could have seen me marry the woman I wholeheartedly love and she loves you too.

I wish you could have met your future grandchildren.

I wish we could have gone to our first Chiefs game together.

There’s so much I wish I could say to you, Dad.

I’m not a religious man like you were, but I’d like to think that you are looking down on me proud that I’m pursuing my dreams and that’ll I’ll be doing so in your name for the rest of my life.

My Dad told me that all he ever wanted was a son and Dad I want you to know that I’m incredibly proud to be your son. You’ve given me so much that I wish I was able to repay.

As a Veteran, Thank You for Your Service.

I hope someday we will get to reunite again.

I love you, Dad. Thank you, for everything. ❤️
