PhotoGregory Buzz E. Wilson, 50, of Topeka entered into eternal peace Sat., July 19, 2008. Greg was born Aug. 20, 1957 in Topeka to Xynthia Cushinberry Wilson and Buren Hodison. Greg overcame many obstacles to become one of the best basketball players in Washburn University history. As a member of the Ichabod basketball team from 1985-1989, Greg played 135 games- the 2nd most games played in school history. He tied the school record for single season starts with 39 during the Ichabods National Championship run in 1987 and was a first-team All-Central States Conference selection in 1988. Greg finished his career with 1,321 points and 509 rebounds, ranking him No. 7 in all-time scoring and rebounding for the Ichabods. He was inducted into the Washburn Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006. Greg was a section manager for Hallmark Cards. He graduated from Topeka High School and Washburn University. He married Brenda Lee Vink in 1997 in Topeka. Greg is preceded in death by his parents and brother Ernie. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Collin; daughter, Anjanae; and sisters, Victoria Hert, California; Janie Wilson, Topeka; and Estella Wilson, Kansas City. Greg embraced life and lived each day to the fullest. His light shined upon his children. He was a respected teammate, a loyal friend and beloved husband and father. We will miss his infectious smile, his passion for life and his love of the game. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Washburn Lee Arena. He will lie in state from noon-9:00 p.m. Tuesday with family visitation from 6-8:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N Kansas Ave. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
