Debra Ann Hortenstine, 63, of Carbondale, KS, passed away on December 21, 2021, at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
She was born in Topeka, KS, on May 28, 1958, the daughter of Forrest and Josephine (Urban) Gibbs.
Debra was a homemaker and was a truly selfless person, always thinking of others. She enjoyed sewing, baking, cooking, and was the true definition of a great mom. She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Scranton.
She married William “Bill” Hortenstine at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka on September 18, 1976. He survives. She is also survived by three children; Jennifer Fenton and husband Robert, Rebecca “Becky” Idiaquez and husband Michael, William “Will” Hortenstine and wife Sara, six grandchildren, Tracy Fenton, Caleb Walshire, Kimberly Fenton, Alex Idiaquez, Ian Idiaquez and Haley Hortenstine, one great grandchild, Zoey Ruley, one brother Mark Gibbs and wife Carol. She was predeceased by her parents and a son-in-law, Jason Walshire.
Debra will lie in state after 2:00 P.M., at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 28, 2021, with family being present from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., and a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29th, at 9:00 A.M., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 400 East Bracken Street, Scranton, Kansas 66537. Interment will follow in Mt.
